Carl joined Avison Young in 1986 and, following qualification as a chartered surveyor, began to specialise in Office Agency, particularly the emerging out-of-town Business and Science Park Sectors.
Carl was first appointed to the Partnership Board in 2000 and, following this, was part of the five-person Operations Executive who oversaw the day-to-day running of the firm.
In 2008 Carl was designated National Head of Office Agency, a position he held for 10 years before stepping down to take over the Managing Director role of the Birmingham office, a position he held until 2024.
Carl more recently chaired Avison Young's UK Executive Committee and continues to lead the company's Science and Technology Park capabilities.
In his role, he leverages his skills as a developer’s agent to provide clients with in-depth advice on the structure of joint ventures, development agreements, procurement processes and overage arrangements. He has also held several pro bono appointments, including a non-executive directorship at Innovation Birmingham Limited, membership of the Birmingham Symphony Hall Capital Projects Board and a similar role for Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Carl’s recent advisory work within the science park sector includes Porton Science Park, Birmingham Health and Innovation Campus, Norwich Research Park, Infinity Park – Derby, Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park and SteamHouse on behalf of Birmingham City University.
